Today’s quest is to build a public form that collects data and automatically records submissions in a Google Sheet.
That’s right, it’s time to get acquainted with automations!
…and so the quest begins. ⚔️

Task for the Day 📝

🧱 Project: Build a Form with a Google Sheet Automation
⏲️ Estimated time: 30 minutes
🛠️ Tools: Questmate, Google Sheets

Context Building 🏔

In this lesson you’ll create your first no-code automation as part of a wider quest.
Your quest will be to create an online form that you can share publicly and that automates data collection into a Google Sheet.
The skills you'll learn today can be applied to a wide range of use cases, including:
  • Data capture - for marketing purposes or to build a personal email list
  • Feedback - create forms and surveys for feedback on projects and ideas
  • Processes - create quests for recurring tasks such as employee onboarding or personal development reflections
  • Checklists - for personal use such as fitness schedules or gratitude journaling
Collecting information like this in a Google Sheet gives you a platform where you can then easily format and analyse the data you've captured.

In this lesson you’ll learn:
  • How to build a quest in Questmate
  • How to automate data collection from Questmate to Google Sheets

Let's Prep 🥗

It's helpful to understand the key concept of ‘Quests’ before you jump into Questmate today.
Quests are all of the necessary steps that result in a completed task. So this includes the quest format (such as a form, process or checklist), any automations (sending data from Questmate to other platforms) and a quest’s availability (private, restricted to specific people or publicly available).

🔥 Get ready to build!
To make your life easier when you build, it’s good to get some practical stuff out the way first. Follow this step so you’re ready to build:
Today’s lesson example uses Google Sheets, so it’s a good idea to have Google Sheets open in a new tab before you start. If you don’t use Google Sheets, there are alternative integrations available in Questmate that you can use to complete this lesson (see step 44 of the guide). Notion and Airtable are good alternatives here if you know how to use them.

Time to Cook 👩‍🍳

Follow the steps below to build:
  1. Open Google Sheets in a browser tab, it's required for the first part of the lesson.
  1. Sign up for your account with Questmate and follow this step-by-step guide to complete today’s lesson.

That’s a wrap, we hope you found this lesson helpful!
