Task for the day 📝

🧱 Project: How to build a resource directory with no-code
⏲️ Estimated time: 30 minutes
🛠️ Tools: Bettermode

Context building 🏔

Today you’ll be creating a resource directory!
In its most simple form, a resource directory is a categorised list of information. Resource directories can be created for personal use, but are especially common in publishing, online learning and software communities.
You might be familiar with Product Hunt, one of the most popular resources for tech enthusiasts for discovering new products and services. At it’s core, Product Hunt is a resource directory, with functionality to aid product discovery and encourage community engagement.
Today, you’re going to be building your own micro-version of Product Hunt! 🤯
But first, why do no-code directory builders like Bettermode even exist?
Think of how most people manage their frequently used resources:
  • Unorganised, unsynced bookmarks across multiple devices
  • Text files and folders scattered across desktops
  • Incomplete spreadsheets lost to the cloud
You can waste hours searching for that one thing that you know you wrote down somewhere...🤦
Resource directories put an end to all of these problems by centralising your resources in one platform, making them easy to access, discover and share.
One other question to ponder: could there be untapped value in your resources?
Maybe you’re already sitting on a valuable curation of resources that others could benefit from? Perhaps you’ve a record of all the best sushi restaurants in your county or state? Maybe you know all the best beginner level resources for learning ChatGPT? Have a list of the best haircare companies and products for curly hair? These are all ideas that might lend themselves to useful resource directories and potential micro-communities.

In this lesson you’ll learn:
  • The benefits of resource directories
  • How to use Bettermode’s templates to get a resource directory off the ground FAST
  • Core functions of resource directories

Let's prep 🥗

In this lesson you’re going to use Bettermode to create a resource directory for podcasters. Let’s call it “Podcast Hunt” 👀

  1. Remove existing contents from the template.
  1. Add and categorise your own contents (products, a community perk and a discussion post).
  1. Configure the navigation so that members can easily find what they’re looking for.
