Hello there!! 👋
Today you’ll be creating a how-to guide using AI.
Let's get into it.

Today’s Task📝

🧱 Project: Create a Step-by-Step Video & Guide
⏲️ Estimated time: 30 minutes
🛠️ Tools: Guidde

Context📄

Today you’ll be creating a step-by-step guide and video using AI.
A step-by-step guide documents the specific steps that users need to follow to complete a task on a website or application. It’s like a GPS for software, guiding you turn by turn on where to go next.
The traditional way of writing guides, documentation and walkthroughs has meant needing to create text-heavy manuals or long tutorial videos, which can lead to information overload or cause users to miss out on important features or steps.
The video and guide you'll be creating today tackles these problems by offering interactive, context-rich documentation that takes users through tasks step-by-step. The best part?! The descriptions for each step are AI-generated for you!

In this lesson you’ll learn:
  • The basics of Guidde
  • How to build interactive step-by-step guides to share with your peers or colleagues

Let's Prep 🥗

What's Guidde?
Guidde lets you create video and step-by-step documentation in seconds. Have a look at what it can do here.
It’s perfect for support tickets, knowledge base articles, customer communication, new feature announcements and internal knowledge capture.

Key concepts
All you need to know for now is that as soon as you start to record a process or "how to" (which you'll be doing shortly), Guidde follows every step you take - every screen, tab and click you make. It will then take these series of steps and automatically turn it into a video! 🎥

🔥 Get ready to build!
To make your life easier when you start creating, it’s good to get some practical stuff out the way first. Follow these steps so you’re ready to go:
  • Firstly, create a Guidde account here. You’ll notice that it’s a free Chrome browser extension that you click on whenever you’re ready to record a step-by-step guide. When you sign up you’ll be given a 14-day free trial (no credit card required).

Time to Cook 👩‍🍳

  1. Choose your topic.
In the spirit of ‘Building in Public’ we recommend that you reflect on what you’ve completed so far during this challenge and pick one tool or process you’d like to generate a step-by-step guide for. This is great to reinforce your learning too! To help you pick one, simply ask yourself, "What lesson gave me an ‘aha’ moment?" Let’s make sure that’s captured, so someone else can experience it too!
If you’d prefer, you can create a step-by-step guide for:
💡 Documenting internal processes at your job or company
💡 Onboarding for new team members
💡 Creating a how-to guide for a tool you use regularly

  1. Recording your guide.
Before you start recording in Guidde, it’s helpful if you have your task steps noted down. The more fluid your recording, the less editing you’ll have to do. That said, don’t worry if you make a mistake or misstep in a recording, as Guidde has a handy editing feature that you’ll be able to use once your recording is processed.
It also helps to have the correct browser tabs open that you’ll be navigating to in your recording.
Before you’re able to start recording, Guidde will ask you: What are you capturing? You’ll be prompted by a text box to describe what type of guide you are recording. The more descriptive you can be, the better, as this is used by Guidde’s AI to understand the context for the steps you are about to record.
Once you’ve described what you’re recording, you’ll be ready to hit "Capture" 🔴
After you have reached the last step in your how-to, stop your Guidde recording by clicking “Done✅” on the browser extension.

  1. Finalise your guide in Guidde's editor.
This is where you’ll see Guidde’s AI work its magic.
You’ll see that Guidde’s “Magic Capture” feature has already entered some information for your guide and each of the steps.
For each step, you can add additional context by editing the steps to emphasise or expand on key points.

  1. Hit ”Share”.
When you’re finished, click the “Share” button in the top right-hand corner of the page and share your guide link via social media or use the “Smart Copy” settings to embed your guide on a variety of platforms.

That’s a wrap, we hope you found this lesson helpful!
